Resume : Philippe Sinclair a tout juste 20 ans en mai 1968. Il délaisse ses études de médecine pour assouvir sa passion. Il veut devenir pilote automobile. Ses premiers essais à Montlhéry, près de Paris, sont prometteurs, mais pas concluants...

Philippe est invité, à sa grande surprise, à disputer une course à Bathurst, à 200 km de Sydney, en Australie. Il apprend qu'il est le fils de Phil Asher, un pilote australien qui avait participé à la course 30 ans plus tôt. Philippe est accueilli à Bathurst par le patron de l'équipe, Jack French, qui le prend sous son aile. Ce dernier semble avoir bien connu son père, décédé lors de sortie de piste des années plus tôt... Philippe Sinclair marchera alors sur les traces de ce père dont il ignorait l'existence. Il va y connaître, en quelque sorte, son vrai destin.
